One of my first stops on 2013's Antarctica visit was Half Moon Island along the Antarctic peninsula. It was a breathtakingly calm and beautiful day, with low winds and warm temperatures barely above freezing. I got to spend hours running around the island capturing images as quickly as I could, as the weather changed from pure blue skies to partly cloudy, as weather began to approach from whichever direction the sun was setting in. I was captivated by the Turneresque light in that direction, and enjoying the frenetic wanderings and squawkings of the penguins there, when a one of a pair of two penguins gave one of their strange calls into the air, a flipper seemingly recreating a hand on the shoulder of a loved one. It was a perfect moment.
